Deck the Halls for Fall

Fall CandlesWell, happy Fall y’all! I don’t know about you, but I love that it is finally the season for boots and scarves! I hope you held on to last month’s article about fall colors because we are not done talking about how to bring this glorious Fall season into your homes. We are getting ready to cozy up fireside and we want our homes to reflect this warm inviting ambiance.

We talked about what last month, now lets talk about how. Start by addressing fabrics that set the tone in your living spaces. All those pillows for instance, that are in the light weight airy fabrics, such as summer cottons and linens, can be swapped out for warmer more luxe velvet ones in rich, fall shades. As Fall triggers those cooler temps our wardrobes gain more and more layers. Try applying the same concept to your home! Toss cozy wool, cotton, chenille or luxurious cashmere throws over furniture in rooms where you family or guests gather. By adding a few cozy throws your space will be instantly transformed into a cozy hideaway.

Fall ChairYou can always add Fall color to your decor in unexpected ways through artwork. But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean a large investment. Take a trip to your local fabric or hobby store. Pick out your favorite Fall fabrics or colorful scrapbook pages for the perfect pop of fall color. Frame your colorful prints or fabrics to hang on the wall for brighten up your book case. This is something you can even change out with the season. Your bookcase is a place of endless opportunity for accessorizing and bringing in your fall themes. You can find beautiful silk fall leaves at your local decor shops and craft stores to add an autumnal touch whether they are likewise pressed in a picture frame or strategically placed along your shelves.

Don’t forget about your other Autumn accessory staples: your mini pumpkins/gourds, and of course your mums. As with any season, flowers are a beautiful way to bring in a touch of color and no flower is more associated with fall time than Mums! And who doesn’t find those mini pumpkins and gourds adorable?! The trick with using pumpkins and the like is strategic placement. Stagger your display using old books or vintage scales as pedestals. Another idea for a pedestal style display would be the use of mini cake stands. This would be great on a arrangement for your mantle, book shelves or even a centerpiece! Get creative by not only staggering the heights, but also playing with the color schemes. By using white or ghost pumpkins you can create a simple yet elegant display.

Fall Living RoomNow, I know I talk a lot about fabrics, but consider the opportunities! They are virtually endless! This is especially true of your dining table this season. Go ahead! “Fall” for trendy fabrics in your table linens! Who doesn’t love seasonally chic table clothes, napkins, runners or even place mats? Table linens may seem rather obvious, but what about beyond the table? Your dining room chairs may be neglected. Often, we select style over comfort when selecting dining furniture. This may be especially true if you are like me and were lucky enough to inherit your grandmother’s dining room set. With Thanksgiving (and yes, even Christmas) right around the corner, it might be time to consider not just dressing up your chairs but addressing that uncomfortable chair issue by adding a cushioned chair pad or coordinating pillow!

Mens-wear fabrics such as tone on tone hounds tooth and cozy plaid patterns are ever popular in fall decor. Re-upholstering your antique dining chairs is another way to give a tired look a little face-lift and warm up to your comfortable fall-time look! If re-upholstering sounds extreme consider a slip-cover!

Adding a little seasonal flair can help keep things from getting stale. I hope you are feeling inspired this season! Creative Interiors is here to help you with your fall decor and create the cozy abode you will be thrilled to not only come home to but to entertain in this Fall and holiday Season.
